JACKSON COUNTY
APPALACHIAN WOMEN’S MUSEUM
Mission: Preserve and interpret the important, often undocumented, contributions of women in the cultural and natural history of the Appalachian region.
Volunteer Needs: Assist with events, archiving, publicity, housekeeping & maintenance, lawn work, gardening, assist with programs.
AWAKE Child Advocacy Center
Mission: AWAKE serves to advocate for abused children in Jackson Co. AWAKE offers a safe place for children who have been abused to receive services.
Volunteer Needs: Office assistance, fundraising, community outreach.
BARIUM SPRINGS
Mission: Our three main objectives in Western NC are to heal the hurt for children and teens who have been abused, neglected, or who are troubled. Provide a safe home through foster care, adoption and Hawthorn Heights, a runaway/emergency teen shelter that serve the seven western counties. Encourage a healthy start through intervention and prevention and intervention.
Volunteer Needs: Mentors to work with youth in our Reclaiming Futures program, administrative assistance. Background check required.

Volunteer Needs: work with dogs, clean pens, walking, leash training.

Mission: Our mission is to provide nutritious meals to our neighbors in need in a welcoming environment.
Volunteer Needs: Kitchen help, help with preparing meals, washing dishes, pantry help by taking clients through self-shop pantry, unloading deliveries, sorting and stocking food, dinner help with serving, bussing tables, occasional office help and help with special events.

Mission: Equinox Ranch awakens the mind, body and spirit of warriors whose traumatic memories and attempts at repressing them have left emotionally numb, volatile and closed off to the world. The program focuses on building the skills that help veterans readjust to civilian world and their work, relationships and communities.
Volunteer Needs: We would benefit from a wide variety of volunteers from office help to painting and could organize groups or work with individuals.

Mission: is to end homelessness throughout Jackson County by providing temporary emergency shelter, housing focused case management services and administering Rapid Rehousing short term rental assistance.
Volunteer Needs: Meal delivery to shelter clients, assistance relocating clients into new homes, client transportation to appointments, job interviews etc.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY USED BOOKSTORE
Mission: Raise funds to support the Jackson County Library

Mission: To provide persons with autism a chance to develop lifelong learning and living skills through cottage industries such as woodcarving, pottery, and weaving as well as growing and selling produce and bedding plants. This will help people with autism support their communities and themselves

JACKSON CO. DEPARTMENT ON AGING
Mission: Meals on Wheels Program delivers nutritious meals to home bound elderly throughout Jackson county to help them maintain their independence in their homes. We aim for the highest quality of life for seniors in Jackson County.
Volunteer Needs: The Meals on Wheels program relies solely on volunteers for meal delivery. A volunteer usually drives one day per week, donating his/her time and transportation. The volunteer is trained for a route of which we have 12 & are introduced to the clients. A route consists of no more than 12 stops and delivery is between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM Monday through Friday

Mission: is to provide a framework through which community and family members may access comprehensive services in impartial and empowering environment. The primary focus of the FRC is to support and enhance the presence of healthy children and strong families in a caring community, while fostering personal development

Mission: The Jackson Senior Center promotes positive aging by supporting older adult in their pursuits of a lifestyle that nurtures healthy, active and productive living.
Volunteer Needs: Group leaders, class instructors, drivers for trip & hiking groups
REACH OF MACON COUNTY Mission: is to eradicate domestic violence and sexual assault crimes in Macon & Jackson Counties through prevention, intervention and educational services. While our name is “Reach of Macon County” , we now provide comprehensive services to the neighboring county of Jackson as well.

Mission: Westcare Hospice exists to be a helping hand along an individual journey, empowering people to live with dignity and hope, while making a difference one life at a time.
Volunteer Needs: volunteers may be directly involved w/patients, assisting clinical staff or provide relief to caregivers and family members. Other opportunities are assist with events, office work or bereavement/spiritual care.
